Here we go again. Revised Plan exhibited

A revised Plan has now been placed on exhibition. While there are a number of changes it was not the overwhelming objections from the community that Mayor Johns listened to. Instead he has made even more PRO-DEVELOPMENT and environmentally destructive changes to this outrageous piece of legislation.

Concerned ratepayers will now have to make a new submission if we are to have any chance of SAVING OUR SHIRE.

Save Our Shire is pulling together community concerns in a list of dot points that you can consider including in your new submission. We will also shortly have an online submission form as we did last time around.

Our Shire is under threat

Sutherland Shire Council is preparing a new Local Environment Plan. This document determines what can be built where in the Shire.

The new plan will affect EVERY DWELLING in our Shire.

In our "town centres", council is suggesting much higher and many more blocks of residential flats. There are proposals to drastically increase the extent of "centres" to create huge "Hurstville-like" mini-cities.

In our "residential zones", increases in Floor Space Ratio (the size of the house) and decreases in Landscaping (the amount of yard) mean that the character of our Shire will change from a green leafy area to a mass of tiled roofs. Even areas that might expect to be "safe" from change, formerly 2E2 (environmentally sensitive) zones, will not be protected and will allow for houses that are 25% larger than the existing permissible size.

This LEP will bring about huge changes in our Shire. Just 15 of these changes that will affect our quality of life, our environment and the values of our properties, are listed here.

No genuine consultation

While other Councils in Sydney have insisted that their residents have a reasonable amount of time to consider the proposed changes (90 days in many cases), our Council has chosen to place the new LEP on exhibition for ONLY 45 DAYS!! (18 March to 1 May) This is the ONLY time you will have to express your opinion. (And yes, the period includes Easter and School Holidays.)

What can you do?

Council sells out Shire residents!?

Urban Activation Precinct proposals.

Council is under pressure to justify not consulting residents in any way before handing over two large areas of Sutherland Shire to the State Government for high rise flat developments in the State Governments new Urban Activation Precincts. If the areas are accepted, State Government will appoint a planning team and Council will lose all control. Don't let your councillors get away with giving away control of YOUR Shire.
